Martial Arts Club at UC Merced

John Cho's Kung-fu School

The Martial Arts Club at University of California, Merced, more commonly referred to as MAC, was founded by the club President Chris Abrescy in the university's inaugural year 2005. Their focus and mission has been to spread Martial Arts Awareness throughout the Central Valley and surrounding areas, in an educational, recreational, and collaborative effort. The club focuses on an appreciation for all martial arts, continually hosting events and workshops that bring together various styles. In addition to Martial Arts, the club focuses on bridging the gap between the UC Merced Community and the Merced Community.

In 2006, the club formed a Demo Team which performs and competes throughout California. One of the demo team's unique strong points is its ability to coexist and collaborate even though the members stem from different styles and backgrounds; ranging from Capoeira, Karate, Tae Kwon Do, Shou Shu, Bok-Fu Do, Kung-Fu, Wushu, and Kemscrima-Doh.

18 Members, 8 Arts, One Purpose.
