Program and Course Approval Handbook
This document contains laws and administrative
procedures relating to approval requirements for degrees, certificates, and
courses in our system. Go here to find out how to create a new program. In
addition, this next document contains revisions (October 2007) to the
Program
and Course Approval Handbook for Approval of Credit Programs.
Also, the Inventory of Approved Programs
will list all the approved program for
California community colleges. This inventory is updated every 2 weeks.
Taxonomy of Programs (TOPS)
The Taxonomy of Programs is a system of numerical codes used at the state level
to collect and report information on programs and courses, in different colleges
throughout the state, that have similar outcomes.

Stylistic Considerations in Writing Course Outlines of Record
This Spring 2008 document from the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges
is a great resource for writing the course outline of record and has a great chart of verbs requiring cognitive outcomes.

California Articulation
Number System
(CAN)
The California Articulation Number System (CAN) was a course identification
system for common core lower-division transferable, major preparation courses
commonly taught on CCC and CSU campuses. The CAN system is no longer in use, but
the CAN numbers are being honored. If the course has an existing CAN
number, please check with the Articulation Officer,
Rose Stock.
Ralph M. Brown Act
This California law covers the conduct of meetings of public
entities.
